Welcome! This site contains photos and literature related to my 1954 Volkswagen Bus. Its vehicle
identification number is 20-088422 . VW started manufacturing buses in 1949 and did not offer the
"Deluxe" or "Samba" model (as Europeans call them) until 1951. My bus is one of 1,937 Samba's built in
1954 and one of only a few hundred "Barndoor" era buses in existence today. "Barndoor" buses, as they
are referred to by vintage VW enthusiasts, were built prior to March of 1955. "Barndoor" is a nickname
referring to the extra large engine compartment door, or deck lid. Enjoy!
